Ruthie M. Sexton

I did not realize it at the time...but as a little girl making my own wallpaper designs for my doll houses...WAS MAKING ART!

I have actively engaged in some type of art for the past 40 plus years. My medium of choice is whatever I am working in at the moment.

I began my art studies in oil, then studied watercolor exclusively for 10 years and found it to be a medium I loved. I now include acrylics and collage in my art endeavors. I have had the opportunity to study with extremely talented artists. Jane Jones of Dallas, Kevin Macpherson, BILLYO of Missouri, Marcia Burtt and Janette Jones and many others.

Through the years, I have been the recipient of several awards and am a thirteen year signature member of the Missouri Watercolor Society (MoWS). I enjoyed having an oil painting of a vineyard in a statewide traveling show in Missouri. My works are in collections throughout the United States and in Europe.

I am often spontaneous in beginning a painting and not sure the direction it is going, (exception is watercolor which requires planning.) but thru color application or perhaps collage pieces I begin to see either a subject or simply a fun design to play with and develop. When painting a subject I always use my own photographs so as not to plagiarize.

I am grateful to God for whatever talent I have in pursuing this wonderful field of ART!
